Fishing activity is commonly represented using catch weights, landings, number of sets or logbook entries, hours fished (e.g., trap soak time, trawl hours), amount of gear (e.g., number of traps, number of hooks) and catch per unit effort (e.g., weight/hours fished).The hexagon grid was created using Canada Albers Equal Area Conic projection, where each polygon is 10 square kilometres in size. Since there is overlap in fishing activity between the Atlantic and the Arctic regions, this grid includes Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Divisions 0-6 in the Northwest Atlantic Region, as well as DFO\u2019s Central and Arctic Region. Inland areas were included to incorporate the Great Lakes as well as other larger lakes. This grid provides a consistent and seamless dataset that can be used as a basis for any marine or terrestrial mapping project covered by the dataset.The \u201cGenerate Tessellation\u201d tool in ArcGIS 10.6 was used to create the hexagon grid, using a size of 10 square kilometers. The grid was divided into four subsets to reduce the number of polygons in each feature class.
