Description
In July 1993 the Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) developed a proposal to collect biological data from broad whitefish (Coregonus nasus) collected from several locations across the Mackenzie River Delta (McDonald 1993). These data were intended to supplement data collected from broad whitefish caught during the Uummarmiut Development Corporation (UDC) exploratory fishery (1989-1993) located along the Middle Channel, north of Horseshoe Bend. The Gwich’in survey locations included Barge Lake and the East Channel near Inuvik, the Peel Channel near Aklavik, the Mackenzie River at the mouth of the Arctic Red River, and the Peel River near Ft. McPherson. Data collected for each fish included fork length (mm), round weight (g), sex, and a pelvic fin ray for ageing purposes. Biological analyses included sex ratio, length and age frequency plots, length vs. age plots, catch curve analysis, and weight-length regression analysis.
Learn more or download this dataset from the Government of Canada's Open data portal.
____________________________________________
